PLAYER OF THE WEEK |
Each week, bd's Mongolian Grill in Novi and Canton sponsors the bd's Player of the Week. Winners are selected based on both their on and off ice performance for the week and receive a gift certificate from bd's.

Week #26 - at Kitchener (3/21 and 3/24), Kitchener (3/22 and 3/26)
#15 Andrew Fournier - Captain Andrew Fournier had three straight multi-point games in the Whalers first round series. He tallied 2 assists as the game's third star (3/22) and followed that up with another 2 assists (3/24). In his final career game, Fournier tallied a goal and an assist as the game's third star (3/26).
Week #25 - at Windsor (3/11), at the Soo (3/14), Sarnia (3/15), at Saginaw (3/16)
#22 AJ Jenks - Alternate captain AJ Jenks ended the season with a 3-game point streak. He tallied an assist at the Soo. The next night he recorded another 2 assists against Sarnia and was named the game's third star. In the season finale, he scored a goal at Saginaw.
Week #24 - at Guelph (3/7), at Erie (3/8)
#19 PATRICK LEE - Forward Patrick Lee scored the first goal at Guelph. He followed that up by scoring 2 goals, including the game-winner, against his old team - the Erie Otters. He was named the game's first star for his efforts.
Week #23 - at Sarnia (2/29), Belleville (3/1), Saginaw (3/2)
#20 CHRIS TERRY - Chris Terry scored a goal at Sarnia and followed that up with the Whalers lone goal against Belleville as the game's second star. On Sunday, he notched 2 goals, including the game-winner, and 2 assists as the game's first star and moved into 13th place all-time on the franchise's points list with 190 in 194 career games.
Week #22 - Brampton (2/22), Sault Ste. Marie (2/23)
#9 VERN COOPER - Forward Vern Cooper notched 2 goals, including the tying goal with 25 seconds left in the game, as the Whalers went on to win in a shootout against Brampton 7-6 on Friday. The next night he tallied the Whalers only goal in regulation as the Whalers lost 2-1 to the Soo in a shootout.
Week #21 - Sarnia (2/13), at Saginaw (2/15), Kitchener (2/16)
#30 JEREMY SMITH - Goaltender Jeremy Smith put in a strong performance picking up 2 wins with a 1.67 goals against average and .949 save percentage. On Wednesday against Sarnia, Smith made 29 saves in a 3-1 win. On Friday he had 28 saves in a 4-2 win and he followed that up with 36 saves and was the game's first star in a 2-1 loss to Kitchener.
Week #20 - at Ottawa (2/8), at Belleville (2/9), at Kingston (2/10)
#19 PATRICK LEE - Forward Patrick Lee continued his steady play and was consistant in each game. He scored a goal at Ottawa and followed that up with an assist at Belleville. He ended the weekend by tallying a goal and an assist at Kingston.
Week #19 - Ottawa (2/1), Sault Ste. Marie (2/2), Kingston (2/3)
#2 BRETT BELLEMORE - Defenseman Brett Bellemore was a steady defensive force throughout the weekend and logged a lot of ice time. He contributed on the offensive side with a goal against Kingston.
Week #18 - Owen Sound (1/25), Peterborough (1/26), at Brampton (1/27)
#24 JOE GAYNOR - Forward Joe Gaynor tallied a goal and an assist vs. Owen Sound. He then notched an assist vs. Peterborough. A key contributor on the penalty kill all weekend, Gaynor scored his first career shorthanded goal at Brampton.
Week #17 - at Guelph (1/18), London (1/19), at Windsor (1/20)
#8 CHRISTIAN STEINGRABER - Defenseman Christian Steingraber stepped it up both on and off the ice this week. He was active in the community with appearances and then he scored his first goal of the season at Windsor.
Week #16 - at Sarnia (1/11), Erie (1/12), Saginaw (1/14)
#10 RYAN HAYES - Right Wing Ryan Hayes didn't waste any time getting used to the OHL. After making his debut in Sarnia, he notched his first points with 3 assists and a +3 plus/minus rating vs. Erie as the game's second star. Then he scored his first career goal and added an assist as the game's first star vs. Saginaw.
Week #15 - at Windsor (1/3), at Sault Ste. Marie (1/4), Guelph (1/5)
#31 MATT HACKETT - Goaltender Matt Hackett made 36 saves as the game's third star in a 3-2 overtime win against his old team Windsor. The next night he was perfect in relief at the Soo. He followed that up as the game's first star in a 3-1 win vs. Guelph. For the week, he was 2-0-0-0 with a 1.27 goals against average and .956 save percentage.
Week #14 - Saginaw (12/27), at Saginaw (12/29), Kitchener (12/31)
#9 VERN COOPER - Forward Vern Cooper celebrated his birthday week with a 3-game point streak carrying over from the Christmas break. He notched an assist vs. Saginaw and scored a goal at Saginaw, prior to turning 17 on the 30th.
Week #13 - at Peterborough (12/13), at Oshawa (12/14), at Owen Sound (12/15)
#20 CHRIS TERRY - Captain Chris Terry was the game's first star vs. Peterborough with a hat trick - including the game-winner, assist, and +3 plus/minus rating. At Oshawa, he tallied a goal and an assist as the game's second star. At Owen Sound, he picked up an assist.
Week #12 - Windsor (12/7), Barrie (12/8)
#22 AJ Jenks - Alternate captain AJ Jenks picked up a career-best 3 assists vs. Windsor and followed that up the next night with his first career hat trick vs. Barrie. In all, he had a hand in 6 of the 8 Whalers goals on the weekend.
Week #11 - at Kitchener (11/30), at Sarnia (12/2)
#23 JOE McCANN - Forward Joe McCann played a solid all-around in two road games, helping the team with his defensive play. He also scored on a penalty shot at Sarnia.
Week #10 - Saginaw (11/21), Sault Ste. Marie (11/23), Sudbury (11/24)
#30 JEREMY SMITH - Jeremy Smith was the game's first star vs. Saginaw by making 48 saves in a 4-1 win. He stopped 26 shots for his third shutout as the first star in a 1-0 win vs. the Soo. He also made 32 saves in a win vs. Sudbury. For his efforts, he was named the OHL Player of the Week with a 1.33 goals against average and .964 save percentage.
Week #9 - Windsor (11/16), London (11/17), at London (11/18)
#20 CHRIS TERRY - Forward Chris Terry was the game's first star vs. London as he recorded his first career hat trick, added an assist, and then scored the game-winner in the shootout. At London, he notched a goal and an assist.
Week #8 - Mississauga (11/9), Guelph (11/10)
#30 JEREMY SMITH - Goaltender Jeremy Smith recorded his second straight shutout vs. Mississauga with 37 saves as the game's first star. The next night he was #1 Star of the Game again with 29 saves vs. Guelph. For his efforts, he was named the CHL Goaltender of the Week with a 1.00 goals against average and .971 save percentage.
Week #7 - at Niagara (11/1), at Erie (11/3), at Mississauga (11/4)
#15 ANDREW FOURNIER - Captain Andrew Fournier continued his scoring streak by tallying points in each game of the road trip. At Niagara he tallied 2 goals and 2 assists as the games second star. He notched an assist at Erie and then scored 3 power-play goals, including the game-winner as the game's first star at Mississauga.
Week #6 - Sarnia (10/24), at London (10/26), Niagara (10/27)
#19 PATRICK LEE- Forward Patrick Lee recorded his first points as a Whaler when he scored 2 goals, including the game-winner, vs. Niagara. He was named #1 Star of the Game.
Week #5 - at Windsor (10/18), Windsor (10/19), Owen Sound (10/20)
#3 WES CUNNINGHAM - Defenseman Wes Cunningham notched assists in all 3 games as part of a 5-game assist streak, including 2 assists and a +5 plus/minus rating as the game's third star vs. Owen Sound.
Week #4 - at Barrie (11/11), at Sudbury (11/13), at Sault Ste. Marie (11/14)
#6 JOSH BEMIS - Rookie defenseman Josh Bemis tallied an assist in every game of the road trip, including notching two assists at Barrie.
Week #3 - at Owen Sound (10/3), Oshawa (10/6)
#20 CHRIS TERRY - Captain Chris Terry continued to be the set-up man during the week as he notched 4 assists in the two games as part of his 7-game assist streak.
Week #2 - at Kitchener (9/28), Windsor (9/29)
#7 KAINE GELDART - Forward Kaine Geldart notched a goal and 2 assists as the game's third star vs. Windsor.
Week #1 - Erie (9/22)
#23 JOE McCANN - Overage forward Joe McCann recorded his first career 2-goal game and was named #2 Star of the Game in the Whalers season opener vs. Erie.
