PLYMOUTH WHALERS CELEBRATE HOCKEY WEEKEND ACROSS AMERICA

Whalers host Brampton on Friday, London on Saturday; Sticks and Pucks, Open House

To celebrate "Hockey Weekend Across America" the Whalers have a number of things going on at Compuware Arena this weekend. Young hockey players can learn from the Whalers during a clinic Friday morning, while everyone can enjoy 2 home games on Friday and Saturday, as well as a free open skate with some of the Whalers on Sunday afternoon.

PLYMOUTH, MI The Ontario Hockey League’s Plymouth Whalers – currently on a four-game winning streak and playing their best hockey of the season – will get into the swing of the upcoming Hockey Weekend Across America starting Friday with home games and other events this weekend at Compuware Arena:

Friday, January 29th – Sticks and Pucks with the Whalers, 10:30am-Noon

Mini-mite, Mite, Squirt, and Pee Wee aged players can join some of the Whalers for a session of Sticks and Pucks, which is a supervised skill session run by Whaler players. Full equipment is required. Each participant will receive a complimentary game voucher for the Whalers game that evening against Brampton. A pizza party with Whaler players follows at noon. Cost is $25 per person.

Spots are still open for Friday’s Sticks and Pucks session. Call Natalie Shaver at (734) 453-3216 to reserve a spot for your child.

Friday, January 29th – Brampton (16-21-6-4) at Plymouth (28-20-0-1), 7:05pm

Whalers center Tyler Seguin – currently rated second overall by the National Hockey League’s Central Scouting Bureau for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft – leads the OHL in scoring 34 goals and 45 assists for 79 points over 44 games, but he’s getting plenty of help from his teammates. Forward Robbie Czarnik has scored in three straight games, goaltender Matt Hackett is second in the league with a .926 save percentage, and the Whalers lead the OHL in penalty killing with an 84.4 percent success ratio.

In addition, the Whalers offer Farmers Insurance $5 Fridays for fans looking to stretch their budget. Certain seats at Compuware Arena can be purchased for $5 during all Friday home games. Call (734) 453-8400 for more information.

Saturday, January 30th – London (34-11-0-2) at Plymouth, 7:05pm

The Whalers are currently chasing London for playoff positioning in the ultra-competitive Western Conference playoff race, so this game can be seen as a four-point game in the race.

The Whalers offer the Bob Evans’ Great Save Pack – four tickets, four hotdogs or pizza slices, four soft drinks, and four line-up cards for $44 – as another good way to stretch an entertainment budget.

Sunday, January 31st – Open House with the Whalers, 3-4:30pm

Enjoy a special skating session featuring Whalers players on a Sunday afternoon. The Whalers will be available for autographs and photographs in a familiar setting. Free fun for kids including skate rentals and skating!
