WHALERS LATE COMEBACK SPOILED BY LAST SECOND GOAL IN 4-3 LOSS

Plymouth ties the game with 24 seconds left, but London scores with 0.3 seconds left to win

LONDON, ON Dominic DeSando's second goal of the game with 0.3 second remaining snapped a 3-3 tie and gave the London Knights a 4-3 victory over the Plymouth Whalers in an Ontario Hockey league preseason game played Friday night at the John Labatt Centre.

Trailing 3-2 in the final minute of play, Plymouth head coach Mike Vellucci pulled Whalers goaltender Scott Wedgewood for an extra attacker. The move worked as Beau Schmitz found Austin Levi at the top of the right circle and Levi rifled a shot past London goaltender Michael Houser at 19:36.

Whalers defenseman Beau Schmitz was named the #3 Star of the Game with a goal and 2 assists. He now has 3 goals and 2 assists in 2 preseason games.

Levi has two goals in the preseason for Plymouth, now 2-2 in exhibition play.

Schmitz - voted as the game's third star - scored a goal with two assists. Rookie Sean Myers scored the other Plymouth goal, a short handed effort in the second period.

Colin Martin scored two goals for London.

Plymouth and London traded a goal aside in each of the first two periods. Schmitz (shot from the right point) gave the Whalers a 1-0 lead with his third preseason goal at 1:41. Wilson replied for London with a back hand past Wedgewood at 8:02.

Myers broke down on a 2-on-1 with Plymouth shorthanded and beat Houser with a low shot at 13:12 of the second period. DeSando scored on a rebound from the right circle to tie the game at 2-2 at 17:31 of the second period.

Wilson gave London its first lead at 2:02 of the third period, scoring in tight on Wedgewood.

That set the stage for Levi's equalizer and DeSando's game-winner.

London outshot Plymouth, 36-24.

The Whalers and Knights complete the preseason Saturday night in St. Thomas, ON.
