Saginaw finishes 34-27-4-3 and sixth in the Western Conference race. Saginaw takes on third seed Kitchener in the OHL playoffs, with the series opener Friday night in Kitchener.

Vincent Trocheck (15) scored the other Saginaw goal. Tyler Seguin (48) scored the lone Plymouth goal and finishes the season tied with Windsor’s Taylor Hall for the OHL scoring title with 106 points. Seguin scored 48 goals with 58 assists for 106 points in 63 games; Hall scored 40 goals with 66 assists for 106 points in 57 games.

The OHL has had co-leaders in league scoring on two other occasions. In 1973-74, Sault Ste. Marie’s Jack Valiquette (63 goals and 72 assists) and St. Catharines’ Rick Adduono (51-84) tied with 135 points each; in 1971-72, Toronto’s Dave Gardner (53-76) and teammate Bill Harris (57-72) tied with 129 points.

Seguin is the first Whaler in the team’s 20-year history to qualify for an OHL scoring title.

Saginaw led 1-0 after one period and 3-0 after forty minutes. Telegin scored his 25th goal of the season at 8:54 of the first period, tapping home a second rebound at the side of the Plymouth goal past Whalers goaltender Scott Wedgewood. In the second period, Trocheck intercepted a clearing pass in the Plymouth slot and wristed a shot past Wedgewood at 14:44. Telegin scored again at 18:00, roofing a shot from the right goal line into the top of the Plymouth net.

After Skellett scored at 13:59 of the third period to give Saginaw a 4-0 lead, Seguin scored a power play goal with a shot from the top of the left circle that caromed off the shoulder of Saginaw goaltender Edward Pasquale at 19:34.
