SPIRIT WIN SECOND IN A ROW VS. WHALERS

SAGINAW - Jack Combs scored two goals and two assists and Chris Chappell scored twice as Saginaw defeated Plymouth, 6-3, before 5,527 at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw on Saturday night.

The Spirit are now 16-14-3-1. Plymouth is now 19-11-2-2.

Tomas Zaborsky and Jordan Szwarz scored the other Saginaw goals. Patrick Lee (5), Chris Terry (25) and Vern Cooper (7) scored for Plymouth. Terry also added an assist and now has 100 assists in his Plymouth career - the 21st player in franchise history to earn 100 assists.

Matt Hackett started for Plymouth and was lifted for Kyle Jendra at 3:59 of the third period. Hackett stopped 14-of-18 shots at 43:59 of work and Jendra stopped 11-of-12 in 14:21. Saginaw's final goal - scored by Combs on a empty net with seven seconds left - is not charged to Jendra.

The Whalers are back in action Monday at 4 p.m. against Kitchener at Compuware Arena.
